No reason to fear Viibryd withdrawals

Viibryd, also known as Vilazodone is an Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant that exerts its mechanism of action on Serotonin. Viibryd received FDA approval in January 2011 after Trovis Pharmaceuticals completed two Phase III eight-week clinical trials.

Viibryd may cause low blood sodium (hyponatremia), with symptoms including headache, confusion, problems concentrating, memory problems, weakness and unsteadiness. The elderly and patients taking diuretics are more at risk for hyponatremia.

Combining Viibryd with NSAIDs, aspirin, warfarin or other drugs that effect blood coagulation can cause an increased risk of abnormal bleeding.

Viibryd should not be combined with MAO Inhibitors, Tramadol, Tryptophan, 5HTP or any supplements that increase Serotonin, or with antipsychotic medications. In addition, the use of Viibryd in combination with other Central Nervous System drugs has not been systematically evaluated. Therefore it is recommended to use caution when combining Viibryd with other agents.

Viibryd is considered a pregnancy Category C medication, meaning that it may not be safe for use during pregnancy. It is unknown if Viibryd passes through breast milk

Withdrawal symptoms, known as a Discontinuation Syndrome have been reported with Viibryd. A gradual dose reduction is recommended rather than abrupt discontinuation. Withdrawal symptoms may include anxiety, irritability, insomnia, diarrhea, tremors, headaches, dizziness and nausea.
